a day wandering potts point, the botanical gardens and circular quay
An art and café lovers paradise, Potts Point is becoming one of the more popular neighbourhoods in Sydney. Lines of cafes adorn the sidewalks, surrounded by the modernised terrace houses. If you happen to be in the neighbourhood on a Saturday, take a stroll through the KINGS CROSS ORGANIC FOOD MARKET and get a hit of fresh fruits, veggies and home-made treats. Grab yourself a coffee, wander down to Woolloomooloo wharf and then continue up the stairs to the ART GALLERY OF NSW and gaze at the latest exhibition. In July, us Sydneysiders are treated to the famous ARCHIBALD exhibition. It’s an amazing collection of art in the running for the annual prize awarded to the best portrait painted by an Australian.
After a culture-filled morning, enjoy a leisurely lunch (and a glass or two of wine!) at one of my favourite restaurants, perfectly situated in the Art Gallery of NSW, CHISWICK AT THE GALLERY, followed by a walk in the sunshine through the BOTANICAL GARDENS right around to the OPERA HOUSE. If you haven't had too much wine and still have time to spare, keeping wandering around to the other side of Circular Quay to the area known as THE ROCKS where you will find THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART. Take in all this gallery has to offer and then reward yourself with a visit to CAFÉ SYDNEY for a well-earned cocktail and early dinner with the best view in town. If it’s May/June you'll be lucky enough to catch VIVID SYDNEY, an exhibition which lights up areas all around Sydney using live light installations. It’s the perfect way to end a magical day of explorations in this beautiful city.
The Farm Wholefoods: Monday- Saturday 7am- 7pm, Sunday 8am- 7pm
Offering a large selection of bulk dry goods and herbal teas, this gorgeous little store/cafe is a great way to start your morning. Choose from a ‘znickers’ smoothie bowl, mango and pineapple ‘crunchola’ or the ‘farmer’s brekkie’ and you won’t be disappointed. They also serve coffee with either full cream, almond or coconut milk. Delicious!

Chiswick at the Gallery: Monday- Sunday 12pm- 3.30pm, Wednesdays 12pm – 9:30pm
Chiswick is one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney, so when I heard they had opened a second outpost at the gallery I was more than thrilled. They pride themselves on a fresh, seasonal menu, with an importance on where their food comes from and how it was grown. Not to mention that it all tastes as good as it looks!

Café Sydney: Monday- Friday 12pm- late, Saturday 5pm- late, Sunday 12pm for lunch only
If you’re lucky enough to score a table here, you’re in for a treat as these guys have the best view in town. The menu is mostly seafood and can be a little hit or miss, but the view certainly makes up for it. We used to take my dad here for oysters and martinis and could gaze into that harbour view for hours…

The Fish Shop: Tuesday – Saturday 12pm-11pm, Sunday 12pm-9pm
Not too far from the harbour lies this Hamptons-inspired fish shop which serves up more than just your average fish and chips. Everything on the menu reflects their drive to cook with sustainable and locally caught seafood – always avoiding endangered or over-fished species. This means the daily specials change often, leaving more to be discovered each visit. There’s everything from a simple but delicious scampi linguine to prawn and cauliflower dumplings. Pair it with a crisp white wine from their bar menu and the night is set!

Cho Cho San: Monday-Thursday 5:30pm-10pm, Friday-Sunday 12pm-11pm
The beautiful interiors of this restaurant are just the start of a perfect dining experience. It’s a fresh take on Japanese cuisine, making my love for Japanese food even stronger. There are plenty of raw options, clean food and delicious drinks. Try the scallops with nori puree and house-cured smoked bonito. Yum!
